THE SUN SHINES FOR EVERYONE

Book & Lyrics Mia Jerome

Music Lisa Wright

On planet Zame, home to the Zamzies race, everyone's the same. When the sun shines on M.A.T, (Migrant Alien Traveller/A puppet) they decide to jump in their spaceship, but they crash land on earth. They meet Buddy, who is in trouble at school for name calling. M.A.T is filled with joy, (the only emotion they know). Through the positive emotion of joy, The Sun Shines For Everyone encourages children to have pride in their own heritage and history, as well as celebrate, recognise, appreciate and understand different cultures, and empower them to make change.

We have just finished an incredible 3 week schools tour of The Sun Shines for Everyone in Barnet and Hammersmith & Fulham, and couldn’t be any more proud of how it went. We’d like to say a massive thank you to all of our funders and supporters; The Phoenix Fund (Global Fund for Children, The National Lottery Fund), W12 Together and artsdepot.
After a two week rehearsal period during our artist residency with artsdepot we set to schools across west and north London reaching 1,882 young people with our show focusing on anti racism. The show follows a school boy Buddy as he re learns racist behaviours and how to become an ally to his friends at school.
Follow this link to read more about our initial creative research project which influenced the creative process of the show finding out about young people's understanding of racism and anti racism, funded by Barnet & Culture for Youth.
The show is supported by a range of resources for both adults learning and learning resources, ideas and lesson plans to be used in the classroom, created by Sharla Smith and Emily Azouelos. Why not check out Emily's recent article in Teach Primary for us here.
Downloadable resources including; Anti Racism Resource Pack, KS1 Anti Racism Lesson Plan, KS2 Anti Racism Lesson Plan, Pre Show Resources, Post Show Resources.

"Just say an enormous thank to you and your colleagues for yesterday. The children and staff all greatly enjoyed the performance and my class (Y2) were squealing with excitement after the 'hook' of police searching for the alien at school. My class spent their entire playtime searching and watching out for the alien, their imagination already fired and inspired. On returning to the classroom we had a huge discussion about what they had learnt from the play. They're responses reflected the message being conveyed. "
