LITERARY LEADERS
(Leytonstone Summer School)

The creative writing sessions at Leytonstone School were held by writer and actor Daniel Bailey and enabled  young people to understand how representation in literature impacts the black lives, especially in the UK.

The workshops focused on identifying how literature from blogpost, newspapers, twitter, novels, poetry and short stories have been influential in preserving history, inspiring activism and preserving culture.

It was wonderful how with a starting point of exploring black authors leading to a focus on using your voice, the young people went on to explore a range of social issues they were passionate about from racial discrimination, environmental issues and the housing crisis.
